Railway excursion tickets, Toowoomba and Clifton, 1953

Railway excursion tickets, 1953. Excursions from as early as 1913 provided an enjoyable trip to the countryside, paired with a dining experience in Railway Refreshment Rooms. From Brisbane, trips to the Darling Downs and the south coast were popular. The Refreshment Rooms were critical to the success of these early ventures in tourism, providing a pleasant setting, an enjoyable meal and on occasions, access to ‘sly’ grog.
