Decorative crest for locomotive smokebox, 1934

This crest was mounted on the front of the locomotive used during the Queensland leg of the visit to Australia by the Duke of Gloucester in 1934.

Queensland railways showing all railways open for traffic, under construction and approved by Parliament. Prepared for the Commissioner of Railways, Brisbane, 1948. In Queensland there were several unlinked railway systems. Families using the Queensland Bush Book Club would make their way to the nearest railway station to collect their parcels. Those living a long distance from the rail depot, made arrangements with private carters or the postal service for the next leg of the journey. Collection of the National Library of Australia
