Nineteenth century walrus tusk pastry fork

Nineteenth century walrus tusk pastry fork

Despite walruses being confined to the Arctic ocean and sub-Arctic seas of the northern hemisphere, this pastry fork found its way into a Queensland kitchen. It shows the diversity of objects created through the craft of scrimshaw. The value of the material and the craft make this a highly sought after and prized possession. It was acquired by Queensland Museum in 1923.
