Machine shears
Wool was a central colonial economy for Queensland and the basis for European expansion and settlement. The arrival of large numbers of sheep transformed the physical landscape. Shearers became a mobile and critical workforce who established a new political landscape in Queensland. Machine shears such as these were used from the late nineteenth century and replaced hand shears. Electric shears are most popular, but both machine and hand shears continue to be used by some specialised wool producers.
