Lutheran Church, Hope Vale, 1968. During World War II Indigenous people in the Hope Valley and Cape Bedford areas were moved to Woorabinda and in 1949 the survivors were transferred back to a newly established Lutheran mission at the future site of Hope Vale. Edward River Mission (now Pormpuraaw) crocodile farm, 1990. In 1938 the Church of England began the Edward River Mission. The mission's superintendant between 1957-62 was the father of Dr Heather Beattie (nee Halliday), later wife of Peter Beattie, Premier of Queenland 1998-2007.
