Solomon Island canoe paddle, 1884

This canoe paddle was collected by a government agent aboard the Labour Trade vessel Sybil I in 1884. The Sybil I was used to transport indentured South Sea Islanders for the Queensland sugar industry. The paddle originates from the Solomon Islands where a number of labourers were recruited.
