Gregory’s theodolite, c1870

Gregory’s theodolite, c1870

Surveying was an important way in which European colonisers made the Queensland landscape more familiar. Queensland’s Surveyor General, A.C Gregory, is believed to have used this Y-pattern theodolite to map the countryside during exploration.
