Decorative crest for locomotive smokebox, 1934
This crest was mounted on the front of the locomotive used during the Queensland leg of the visit to Australia by the Duke of Gloucester in 1934. It was mounted on the front of the smokebox of the locomotive that pulled the Vice-Regal carriage used for the visit.The extensive organisation that marked the Duke of Gloucester's rail journey in Queensland included not only this specially prepared hand-painted crest, but a printed timetable for the journey and accommodation in the Queensland Railways Vice-Regal carriage.
